About the Project
Funded by the Leeds Community Foundation - Give Love Leeds programme.
In 2019, we launched our first project and arranged for 4 skilled practitioners to facilitate interactive music and drama workshops in care homes for dementia. The goal was to build a sense of community within the settings, foster new friendships, and improve the overall well-being of the residents.
We were very pleased that in some of the care homes we worked with, the project inspired new ideas and activities schedules.
One highlight was our session in Horsforth that inspired one of the beneficiaries to tell a story of her earlier life that care staff hadn't yet been told. We found that she, in fact, performed at the Leeds Grand Theatre sitting on a real horse! Story collection after our sessions was a really lovely part of the Join Hands project and allowed residents to get to know each other on a deeper level with encouragement from our practitioners.
